Final Round for the TDI Diesel is Approaching

Still Interested in a TDI?  Now's the Time!

It has been well documented that VW bought 400,000+ TDI’s back from the general public.  While they’ve been selling them to the dealer body over the past year or two, other TDI’s have made their way to the used car market via independent non-VW brand dealers.

There is a HUGE difference between a certified VW TDI diesel purchased from a franchise Volkswagen dealer vs. an independent non-VW dealer.
First and foremost, Volkswagen of America (VWoA) released and offered these vehicles (for sale) to VW Dealers ONLY in smaller increments over time in an effort to not saturate the market.  These vehicles were made available on a closed “VW Dealer Only” website so we could pick and choose the best of the best, and simply pass on the others.

Once those “others” got passed on by the entire VW dealer body nationwide, those cars were made available to regular independent dealer auctions like Adessa and Manheim.  This is, for the most part, the only avenue an independent dealer could obtain a TDI to sell to their customer base.  I personally would ask myself, why would I consider a car that was passed on by all the VW franchise dealers who know the car best?
We hear it all the time, “so-and-so dealer down the street has one a little cheaper”.  Yes, they do and theirs should be cheaper, and no we cannot match their price, here’s why.  As a franchised Volkswagen dealer, our factory trained certified technicians know what those cars need and have the special tools and training to bring them back to “as close to” new as possible using factory (OEM) parts.  We also are the only dealer who can perform the emissions modification to make the TDI itself, compliant.  Not to mention, we know what maintenance items are needed.  If a 2014 model car has 25,000 miles, we may perform a 40,000-mile service just because of the time (not the mileage).  Purely speculation on my part, but my guess is that Independent dealers simply will not spend the time or money to do that prior to selling.

Bringing these cars up to date with all the factory maintenance items along with emission modifications also allows us to add a 2 Year, UNLIMITED mile warranty to the car, FREE to our customers.  No independent or non-VW branded franchise dealer can offer that.

While the number of TDI’s for sale at first was large, that number now is getting very small.  The amount of TDI’s has gone from over 400,000 to less than 50,000 at this point.  IT WILL DRY UP in the next few months.

We, here at Hewlett Volkswagen, have bought and sold hundreds and are still buying them to this day.  Our supply is mostly made up of the Passat because that’s all the brand is down to. While other TDI car lines have sold out, we do try to stock 30-40 TDI’s at any given time (for now anyway).

The customers who have bought the TDI's from us as  certified pre-owned (CPO) have enjoyed  the power and fuel economy the TDI has always offered, up to date maintenance items and aggressive finance packages through VW Credit.

If you’re a current or previous TDI owner, you already know all the advantages.  The fuel economy, power, reliability and roominess of the Passat itself are second to none.  If you’re intrigued and want to learn more, I strongly encourage you to come visit us, it’s not too late but time is running out and the end is near.  Hope to see you soon!

Happy Motoring

Brett Weldon rejoins Team Hewlett

By Tom Fornshell, Service and Parts Manager There is a lot of talk about how important family is. It is fundamental to all of us and it is very important to me. It can either be our foundation or our undoing, a huge support structure or missing altogether… maybe all the above. Any way you have it, it influences the path we take in life. Hewlett Volkswagen is owned and run by an amazing family who teach me about generosity, respect, and caring every day. They make our store feel like home. Brett Weldon was a Volkswagen service consultant for sixteen years; and ten years with the Hewlett Family.   Good and high performing people in any industry are often lured away to different organizations hoping to capitalize on some of that performance. Such was the case with Brett. Heck, I don’t blame them, Brett is a Rockstar of customer service. Anyone that has had the fortune of dealing with him knows that. So, after a couple years of not so pleasant public perception of the ...
