If you have learned how not to worry, I’m a little jealous. My
wife tells me I worry about too much. And she is right; I do worry. But that is
part of what contributes to my enthusiasm for control. With all the media
attention about the new coronavirus, it is hard not to worry. I won’t rehash
all the stories with you; however, I will wash my hands and I will bump elbows
with you instead of shaking hands. We will disinfect our customer areas twice a
day and we will stay home if we are sick. And I recommend y’all do these things
too. That will help me not to worry…too much.
Since I have family in central Texas, south Texas, and
Houston, I want to be in a place to help them if I’m needed. So, I’m going to
take care of my family’s cars. My daughter’s SUV needs an oil change and
shocks. My wife’s new Jetta needs an oil change and pollen filter. I’ll top off
the fluids, change the wiper blades, and air up the tires. I’ll also look for
any obvious safety issues. None of these things are pressing, but it will give
me one or two fewer things to worry about if I need to make a road-trip or pick
someone up. Being a control enthusiast, the more things I can do to eliminate
unknowns, the less I’ll worry.
If you have family out of town or if you travel for work, we
can help. We offer a free service called the “Hewlett Pit Stop”.
Just like the old days when you pulled into a gas station, we will top off your
coolant, top off your motor oil, and top off your windshield washer fluid. We
will visually inspect your belts and hoses. We will perform a sophisticated
battery health check with a printout, and we will air up your tires…all for
free. You don’t even have to get out of your car! [Disclaimer: we will only pay
for one quart of oil for you, but if you need two, just buy the other quart and
we will put it in - no charge.] If your
car needs more service, we can help with that too. Remember to change your oil and wiper blades every year. Volkswagen says to change your pollen filter every
other year. I’m going to change mine every year…after all, it is one of the few
maintenance items that benefit the people rather than the car.
I like to eliminate things to fret over in my life. Some
folks do what they can and leave the rest up to chance… or the universe… or
whatever. I like to do all I can and leave the rest to God. My family, my employees, coworkers, and our customers are what I concern myself with. Please let us
know how we can help or, just come by for an elbow bump.
Remember to wash your hands before you touch your face.
Happy motoring and blessings to all.
Sincerely,
Tom Fornshell, Service Director
Well said, Tom!
