Your car does
nothing without tires. TIRES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY ITEM on your car.
Going is optional, and on my older car, I sometimes think the car gets to
decide if it will go or not. Turning and stopping are mandatory. Without tires,
your car will not do any of them. Poor quality tires do these things more
poorly than higher quality tires do. Sufficient tire tread is vital in the rain
or on wet roads.
If your tires
are more than 8 years old or your tread depth is less than 4/32 of an inch, you
need to get new tires. That’s where we come in!
The good news is that there are almost always manufacturer rebates. This month, September, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Dunlop and Hankook tires all offer a $70.00 Visa prepaid gift card rebate when you buy and install 4 eligible tires. This month buying tires with the Volkswagen Service Credit card doubles that rebate to $140.00 and you have 6 months to pay it off with ZERO interest. I never apply for the store branded gimmicky credit cards for 15% off my $150.00 purchase. It’s not worth the $22 I’d get. But $140.00… that is worth doing. I can buy a lot of gasoline… or pizza and beer… or a nice dinner with my wife… or donate to NPR (I always wanted some of those grackle socks). Whatever you do with it, it is $140.00. And with the price match, you know you won’t be paying too much to get it. (Firestone, General, and Pirelli have other specials too.) Our Service Consultants have a comparison sheet with several different tires and rebates that's yours free just for asking.
This article is titled “Everything you need to know about tires” and almost all I have written about is how to purchase them affordably and confidently. You see, that is what you need to know. Trust me I could geek out and talk about engineering specs, load or speed rating, how to read the date code on your tires, compound chemistry, or the ever so controversial temperature, tread-wear, and traction ratings, but you don’t need to know that. And if you do know that stuff, I will likely not tell you anything you don’t already know.
Know this: if your tires are old or worn out, take a quarter and put it into the tread head down; if you can see all of George Washington’s head, you need tires. Buy them from someone you can trust. Ask about manufacturer rebates and double those rebates with an interest free credit card.
I hope I have been helpful. If you have any more tire related questions, just give me a call and I’ll be happy to help any way I can.
As always Happy
